Our Projects
BKEA Ltd. participates in national and EU-funded initiatives focused on sustainability, analytical innovation, and the valorisation of agri-food waste. These projects strengthen our scientific capabilities and support the development of greener, high-value solutions for industry.

Authentication of Maltese Pork Meat: Unveiling Insights through ATR-FTIR and Chemometric Analysis (APM-UC)
APM-UC is funded through the MCST REP Programme and focuses on developing a validated, rapid, and cost-effective method to authenticate Maltese pork using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and chemometric modelling. By analysing the detailed infrared molecular signatures of local and imported pork, the project directly supports food fraud prevention, strengthens consumer trust, and protects the Maltese pork sector from mislabelling and unfair competition.

Green Valorization of Olive Pomace Waste for Nutraceuticals and Cosmeceuticals: A Sustainable Approach (OliveGREEN)
Supported by MCST REP funding, OliveGREEN uses green extraction technologies to transform olive pomace waste into high-value nutraceutical and cosmetic bioactives. Through environmentally friendly extraction processes, the project aims to produce sustainable, market-ready compounds while advancing circular economy models in the olive industry and reducing agricultural waste burdens.

A Complete Sustainable Greener Route for the Utilization of Olive Pomace: Production of Bioactive Sprout Inhibitors and Alternative Proteins (SUSTAINOLIVE)
Co-funded by the MCST–TÜBİTAK Joint R&I Programme, SUSTAINOLIVE develops an end-to-end sustainable valorisation strategy for olive pomace. The project focuses on producing bioactive sprout inhibitors, alternative proteins, and other high-value compounds using greener extraction and processing. The funding enables cross-border collaboration, innovative bioprocess development, and the creation of new value chains for agri-food waste.

Alternative Proteins Research and Innovation Skills Enhancement (APRISE)
APRISE is a Horizon Europe ERA-Talents action supporting capacity building in alternative protein research for Widening Countries. Through this EU-funded project, BKEA contributes to advanced training, green biotechnology integration, circular bioeconomy practices, and knowledge transfer activities aimed at strengthening Europe’s alternative protein innovation ecosystem.

European Network for Valorizing Food Processing Waste into Sustainable Fibers (ENFiber) – COST Action CA24111
ENFiber is funded through the COST Programme and brings together European experts to convert food-processing waste into sustainable fibres using scalable green extraction methods. The Action develops standardised extraction and characterisation protocols, promotes industrial scalability, supports training (STSMs, training schools), and accelerates innovation aligned with EU circular economy and Green Deal objectives.
